Conflict Studies: I will buy you and someone you’ve disagreed with a beer

Conflict Studies is a new public project that provides a social space for disagreement, discussion, and offer (if only the potential for) resolution. Conflict Studies assumes that a healthy social sphere can be judged by its ability to accommodate and even foster disagreement, and not by its capacity to resolve conflict.

The project aims to highlight the social rituals of commiseration, conciliation, and conflict. Over a pint of conflict

ale, participants will rehash, reargue, and recite an argument they’ve had in the past. Witnessed by friends, the disagreement will become a public record, transcribed for a forthcoming publication that will explore the role of conflict in everyday life.

Project participants will be selected from this call and notified by July 30, 2016. In exchange for rehashing this argument, you and the person you’ve disagreed with, along with the witnesses you bring, I will buy all of you beer for as long as it takes to rehash the argument.
