Life Exchange,”life swap” with Nancy Weber by Wooloo/ Martha Wilson
A day in the life of...
I found this amazing experiment called “Life Experiment” that pertains to our current project so, I thought that it would be especially good to post this experiment now rather any other time. This experiment is about personal and private space. Most, if not all of us have all wondered what it would be like to be someone else; that is exactly what this project is about! While I was looking for some inspiration, I did a google search and found a really nice picture which led me to another search which led me back to rhizome website once again. The project is, anyone who is willing, is invited to come into Nancy Weber’s (who is also an writer) apartment in Chelsea, NY for this week long experiment. It was held at Performa 07. Nancy put an ad in “The Village Voice”, to trade places (eg. friends, family, lovers work, and breakfast preferences) with a complete stranger. This idea was thought up by a artist-run organization website in Berlin called “Wooloo”-which means “where water meets” in Indigenous Australian. The manager behind this amazing experiment is this woman called Martha Wilson. She is a really interesting and fascinating artist and I encourage everyone to click on the links given to find out more! I have always wondered about this so I was just blown away when I found that this has become an experiment and matched our first project. It gives you the oppertunity to try to see through someone else’s eyes and also maybe be able to manipuate or judge that person and compare it to how you live; who knows. So guys, check it out! What would you do? I think I would try to live someone else’s life before I would want someone living mines. I wonder why that is…
