Superflex

There is a group called Superflex that I found interesting. The group created a McDonald’s set that looks just like the interior of the fast food place. The replica even had food, coffee machine , furniture everything  that makes McDonald’s look the way it does. ( everything but staff and costumers).  Slowly they began to fill the room with water until everything was submerged. The process was filmed and photographed.

The concept behind this piece is to challenge the excessive ownership and control over trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property legislation though our visual culture. Does the value of an object decrease when it is copied? or is it enhanced?”There has never been a time in history when more of our “culture” was as “owned” as it is now. And yet there has never been a time when the concentration of power to control the uses of culture has been as unquestioningly accepted as it is now.”(Lawrence Lessig) .
