After scanning through the many artists on the New Media Art site I found many interesting pieces. One in particular caught my attention. Two Artists Paul Kaiser and Shelley Eshkar collaborated on many pieces together.
work by Paul Kaiser and Shelly Eshkar
This piece was actually projected onto the floor of a gallery playing a loop of video showing different figures moving, opening upbrellas, dodging raindrop and other pedestrians in the crown. Using ‘motion-capture’ technology these artists used infra-red cameras to record the movements of eight people. The technology used is truly amazing they were able to create these illusions with covering and manipulating digital images to look like different people performing realistic movements. The figures move as though they are choreographed routines even though there is actually no progression of event or narriative.
One thing i really like about this piece is that you become part of the work. By stangind above and looking down upon the figures we are able to see these people moving in a street but are unable to interact with them even though we are sharing the same physical space.
I love the idea of media art becoming a production that is not just stationary and just observed but experienced in a different way.
