Traditional Art vs. Digital Art
I’m eager to hear everyone’s opinion on the subject of traditional painting, sculpture, and drawing mediums compared to modern, digital artwork. We can’t ignore this movement to digital art that has occurred.
Personally, I can appreciate digital artwork and the ability one has using the Internet to share their work with the rest of the world via YouTube, a blog, or a personal website. I’m particularly impressed with realistic, three-dimensional work artists can create with computer programs. Animation and video game graphics sometimes are difficult to tell apart from actual photos and real-life video. That said, my passion really lies in painting and drawing on a physical canvas or paper. I’m just comfortable with these mediums and I believe it’s much more affordable than buying computer programs and accessories. I know I can do quite well in painting, drawing, sculpture, and any hands-on courses, but computer courses are more frustrating for me. Technical difficulties that I am always going through with losing my work, a slow computer, and lack of knowledge seem to outweigh the benefits of digital art.
Some artists refuse shifting to digital art and appreciating, and taking it seriously. They find everything these days going digital is going to take over classic art forms. They worry painting and drawing will be a lost art.
Another angle to this is combining the two forms. I’m sure a lot of us are comfortable with scanning or taking a photo of our artwork (drawn/painted piece/etc.) and manipulate the image using a computer. We perform small tweaks like colour correcting or erasing any errors that could not be physically erased on paper. Then we take advantage of the digital world, and post our traditional art on the Internet to be shared and discovered worldwide.
