While looking for art to post about I ran into “cups/mugs in bubble wrap“. It’s by an artist named Cory Bluemling working out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He made cups and mugs on a pottery wheel, wrapped them in bubble wrap and set them on a pedestal in the middle of the gallery. He then told the viewers they were free to take / adjust the piece. The video documents 2 hours of footage, but is sped up to approximately 2 minutes.
I took particular interest in this piece because I like that the artist is allowing the viewer the freedom to touch and adjust the piece, as well as taking part of it home with them. Since a gallery is such a “hands off” environment, I find it really interesting the concept of letting the viewer move it and keep part of it if they so incline. It’s a nice contrast to ‘normal’ art gallery etiquette. I also like how the video footage shows the construction and deconstruction of the piece over the 2 hour time frame.
